Dental Implants
What Are Dental Implants?
Dental implants are an artificial replacement for a tooth that’s fixed to your jaw bone like a normal tooth. If you look after your teeth and implants properly, they can last for the rest of your life.
They are made of titanium and have an internal screw called an abutment that holds a false tooth in place.
A single dental implant can support one, or several, replacement teeth – you don’t need to have one implant per replacement tooth. How many you need will depend on how many teeth you need to replace and how strong your jawbone is in these areas.
Your dentist will advice you how many implants you need if you have more than one or all missing teeth.
Making the Decision
Dental implant surgery involves having at least one operation. You need to have healthy gums and your jawbone needs to be strong enough to hold the implants.
Some dentists won’t insert dental implants if you smoke, as it can affect how well the treatment works. Implants are also less likely to work if you’ve had radiotherapy. Some medical conditions, such as diabetes or osteoporosis, might affect how well implants work but more research is needed to know for sure. It’s possible that your dentist might not recommend you have implants if you have either of these conditions. Your dentist will let you know if implants are an option for you.

All-On-X Implants
What is the All-On-X Implant system?
All-on-X is also known as ‘All-on-4’, ‘All-on-5’, ‘All-on-6’ or ‘teeth in a day’.
This procedure enables a whole set of permanent teeth to be fixed in place by just 4 to 6 dental implants in each jaw, evenly spread out and it happens on the same day.
It’s suitable for you if you are:
- Struggling with your denture
- Have a lot of missing teeth and gaps
- You have been told by your dentist that your teeth are failing

Why Replace Missing Teeth?
Why is it important to replace your missing teeth?
The ‘All-On-X’ implant system and procedure gives you instant teeth in a day and the benefits are:
- To increase your confidence when smiling
- To be able to chew your food properly and prevent digestive problems
- Stop your teeth from moving
- Stop your jaw bones from shrinking completely that can change the shape of your face
- With the All-On-X, you will be able to have your teeth the same day and use them the same day
What steps are involved?

1 – Initial Consultation – Your dentist will talk to you about what will happen before, during, and after the procedure, and any discomfort you might experience.
2 – In-Depth Assessment – A detailed examination of all your teeth, gums and mouth will be carried out to make sure you are suitable for dental implants. A CBCT Scan will be taken to check the bone levels and the condition of your local teeth and anatomy like your sinuses and nerves.
3 – Placement Surgery – This is where the dental implant (s) will be placed. Local anaesthetic will first be given to numb the area. The implant will then be placed and it will either be covered by the gum, a cover screw is placed or a temporary restoration is placed.
4 – Healing Period – The dental implant is then left to heal undisturbed from 2-3 months.
5 – Attachment of Restoration – The final step is to take scans of the implant and the restoration is made and fitted. This step might take 2 – 4 appointments
Alternative Options?
Dental implants are not the only options available and this will be discussed in more details before proceeding with implant surgery. These options include:
removable dentures (false teeth) made of plastic or metal framework that hold false teeth
a bridge – false teeth that are fixed onto your adjacent natural teeth
If these options above are not suitable then dental implants would be the right choice.
